V.Ships has recently signed an agreement with Lloyd’s Register whereby LR will help our ship management operation comply with the new Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) which is expected to come into force in early 2012.
The MLC, 2006 convention will set minimum standards on issues such as seafarer conditions of employment, accommodation standards, recreational facilities, food and catering, health protection, medical care, welfare and social protection. Building on the strong relationship V.Ships has with the Class society, which includes an Environmental Culture Evaluation report (MARPOL I), LR will undertake a gap analysis to identify any areas to enable V.Ships to achieve a unified approach to compliance with this important new convention.
